The universe of wine is also nurtured by the charm of unique and unrepeatable stories. An evocative master-class as Ian D'Agata guides you in tastings of vocational wines through the stories of wine-makers achieving the very best their land has to offer. The young Cristofer Di Ruzza and his Lecinaro, an ancient native grape from Latium close to extinction. Thanks to the determination and hard work of companies like this one, we are managing to save such natives varieties and achieve good media coverage. A worthy task that is also carried out with passion by the Tiberio family in Cugnoli, Abruzzo, in managing to enhance and promote the authentic Trebbiano Abruzzese variety and various different biotypes of Pecorino that they have tended for years in their vineyards. The same passion will be found in the wines made by Fratelli Piccin, in Basilicata. The brothers are diversifying their production of Aglianico del Vulture based on the original municipal areas and crus of this grape variety unlike anyone before them has ever achieved. Again in Basilicata, Parco dei Monaci is achieving commendable results when enhancing a little-known DOC wine such as the Moro di Matera, an intelligent blend of Primitivo and international grapes. Primitivo is at home in Puglia, and Pietraventosa highlights this in such a unique terroir as Gioia del Colle, where this grape variety achieves a different kind of expression with greater freshness since it is more distant from the plains and the sea. Puglia is also home to Commenda Magistrale and its Primitivo wines from vineyards very close to the coast, on flat stretches of land richer in sand. All this, combined with a warmer climate on average, ensures fascinating wines quite different from the previous tasting. Speaking of the sea, one can only admire the work achieved by Francesco Rizzo and his partners - four friends who decided to do something for their beloved island of Pantelleria by producing some of the most interesting wines made with Zibibbo grapes in Italy interpreted as dry and sweet sparkling versions. Sicily is also home to Mustazza and its Grillo grape variety - for many people, the island's most noble white grape, used to make a great white wine that is modern yet traditional at the same time. The master-class closes with two exceptional wines that fully narrate their grapes and territories with few rivals in the region: Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio di Calabria, very different from the Sicilian version but just as good as the better-known wine from Etna. Lastly, Maceratino: a white grape from the Marches used for Ribona, a white wine that ages very well and achieves absolute top quality in the hands of Podere Sabbioni.
